This check valve keeps water from back flowing through the water system in a house in the event of a loss of pressure on the hot or cold side. In the event that heat has been applied too close (usually from soldering) to a thermostatic valve, this check valve can deform or melt causing there to be only warm water or only cold water coming through the shower head and sprayer. This is to replace the deformed or melted check valves. Please note that that this can be a difficult operation to perform and really should be done by a professional plumber.
